Tipped for Q2!
Sony has dropped the “Ericsson” and outed a pair of highly-desirable smartphones at CES 2012 this week, the LTE-toting Xperia ion for AT&T’s 4G network, and its Euro sibling, the HSPA+ Xperia S. Both have a squared-off aesthetic and a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 HD display, running Gingerbread on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with an ICS upgrade tipped for Q2.

Both have NFC, HDMI outputs capable of 1080p Full HD video, and 12-megapixel main cameras that can record Full HD too. Front-facing 1.3-megapixel cameras are used for video calls and vanity shots, and there’s the usual WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS along with Sony’s Timescape interface.
Sony Xperia ion hands-on:
Huawei has just announced their new Android smartphone to battle the likes of the DROID RAZR or the new Fujitsu Arrows ES smartphone. They are bringing the worlds thinnest smartphone to market and it will be called the Ascend P1 S. Huawei has managed to fit a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and some other impressive specs into a super thin and lightweight 6.68mm thin chassis.
The new Ascend P1 S will be unveiled here at CES and we’ll be sure to run around and find it to snap a few photos and compare it to our fat Galaxy Nexus we all use. Like mentioned above, Huawei’s new device has some equally impressive specs to go along with the title of “world’s thinnest phone”. Rocking a 4.3″ qHD AMOLED display at 960 x 540 resolution, adual-core TI OMAP 4460 Cortext-A9 CPU at 1.5 GHz and SGX 540 graphics. Not only that but we have 1GB of RAM, and an 1800 mAh battery.

Huaewei has equipped us with an 8 megapixel camera around back and 1.3 front for video chat. 720p HD video capture. The battery cover and rear has a PPVD coat that should evenly distribute heat for those that have ever felt the heat from their smartphones. You get all of that incuding Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich all in a 6.68mm thin frame — impressive.
Pricing wasn’t announced but the device will be available in metallic black, ceramic white, cherry-blossom pink in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East and China from anytime around Q2 2012.

While CES is mostly known as an event to showcase the latest tech hardware, software makers do make an appearance from time to time. This year SEGA is using their ties to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play to showcase Virtua Tennis Challenge, and Android version of the popular tennis title. SEGA says the game has been designed with touchscreen controls specifically in mind, but it has been designed to map flawlessly with the slide-out gamepad of the Xperia Play. Though graphics probably won’t look as great as the PS3 version (pictured above), Virtua Tennis has been optimized for devices using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform, which should offer a respectable presentation on mobile devices. Here is SEGA’s full statement.
SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that Virtua TennisTM Challenge will be making its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week, January 10-13, during a special invitation-only showing in the Sony suite at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas hotel.
Virtua Tennis Challenge has been designed specifically for mobile experiences and touch screens. The title is also being optimized specially for the Xperia Play and the Qualcomm Snapdragon systems, and features some of the best graphics ever seen in the smartphone tennis game market.
